A man puffs on a cigarette as residents walk through a neon lit street in Mongkok as a bus passes. On the eve of Hong Kong's shift to Chinese sovereignty, colourful handover related signs have joined Hong Kong's already vast array of neon lit skyscraper to make the nightlife in the British colony even brighter. Known for playing as hard as they work, the people of Hong Kong keep the frenetic pace of the colony long after the sun goes down and the neon comes up. Electric companies have boosted the supply of power to accomodate the needs of June 30/July 1 elaborate handover festivities, but say there is no chance of a power surge during the historically lit handover ceremony.
