The driving ambition behind the Bridgeman Art Library is to make the best of the world’s art available for reproduction. To achieve this, we have created an organisation that has breadth and depth. The breadth comes from the size and range of our image collection: hundreds of thousands of images covering every theme and period, from cave painting to contemporary art from collections throughout the world. The depth comes from our team of expert picture researchers, a team that offers creative input and practical experience to help our customers find and license the right image. Above all, we provide vital revenue for musuems and art owners, helping them to conserve and exhibit their works for everyone to enjoy.

We actively support the whole process, from owner to buyer:
  • Museums and public and private collections throughout the world trust the Bridgeman Art Library to administer the licensing of their works.
  • We work with the owners to create high quality reproductions of their works, using the latest technology to create images that are easy to work with and accurately catalogued.
  • As our collection grows, our experts use their experience and judgement to select from Bridgeman's vast resource, working with our customers to help them find the right image.
  • Once an image is chosen, we arrange watertight reproduction licensing simply and quickly, and offer free advice on how to clear artist’s copyright if additional permission is needed.
  • At the end of the process we return half the reproduction fee to the owner of the work being reproduced, to help maintain the world’s great art and make it accessible.
We are involved at every stage so that we can achieve our ambition to make the best of the world’s art available for reproduction. We also lobby and push through legislation on behalf of rights owners and licensees to make the process even more efficient.
